I have produced several music CDs. They are very different from on another, each made for different reasons and presenting a different type of music-making. This means that you should find it easy to differentiate and to decide, based on the descriptions below, which you will be most interested in. You'll also find excerpts from a few of the tracks on each CD in the sound links on the left.

AFTER SEVEN YEARS
Guitar Music from Bart Hopkin

I made this CD to present the sort of music I play when I work as a solo guitarist. It contains no voices, and instruments other than guitar make only cameo appearances.   People who've enjoyed my guitar playing will know what they're getting if they purchase it, and people who are considering hiring me will get a sense from it of what to expect.  In the tracks on the CD I play my classical guitar as well as the funny-looking, glittery-sounding electric guitar that I made, and a couple other guitars of my own design and construction. Things are spiced up in some of the tracks with percussion, bass, or other additions.  There are 17 tracks on the CD, in a variety of musical styles. A lot of people have told me they really love this CD.

GREYBOY AND THE ODD BIRD
Bart Hopkin

This one features a variety of conventional instruments and lots of singing, plus enough instruments of my own design to keep things interesting. Fourteen tracks displaying lots of variety and color. With these tunes, I’ve tried to find the right way to blend catchiness and immediate appeal with sounds that are fresh and different and unpredictable. So, um … what do you think – was I successful? (You can answer after you’ve given a listen.) I put a lot of work into making these pieces as lively, rhythmic, exciting, and engaging as I could -- it's a type of music I really enjoy both making and listening to -- but I haven't gotten this CD out into the world much, and not many people have heard it.You can be among the first.

INSTRUMENTARIUM HOPKINIS
Bart Hopkin Plays Invented Instruments

This CD comes out of my 18 years as director of Experimental Musical Instruments, an organization devoted to new and unusual musical instruments of all kinds. That organization has focused on exotic instrument makers worldwide, but in Instrumentarium Hopkinis I turned the focus to my own instruments and the music they make. The music ranges from raunchy to decorous and from contemplative to crazy-happy. A huge number of instruments appear -- far too many to list here, but they're all described in 16 pages of liner notes. They include the infamous Savart's wheel, the bird-like branching corrugaphone, the worrisome scraper flutes, the magical Polly, the melancholical musical siren, the wobbly bentwood chalumeau, the glittering disorderly tumbling forth, and many, many more.

BOSSAS, BALLADS, AND BLUES
Dale Polissar, clarinet, and Bart Hopkin, guitar

Dale Polissar is a magnificent clarinettist. His tone is as fluid and warm; his lines are melifluous and sinuous; his ideas are always fresh and alive. On this CD he plays twelve tunes, mostly but not exclusively standards; melodies chosen because -- well, because they're great melodies and they provide wonderful vehicles for Dale's musicality. Bart is Dale's accompanist here, providing perfectly supportive and, I hope, inventive arrangements, plus the occasional tasty solo.

WHAT CAN THEY DO TO US?
John Goodman and Bart Hopkin

John Goodman, a great bass player and a greater human being, passed away in December, 2000. It was my pleasure to perform with him on a regular basis during his last 8 or 9 years. During those years he occasionally came over to my place to do a bit of recording, and this CD represents the best of those recordings. John plays stand-up bass as well as his signature pizzacato cello, and occasional percussion. I play guitars, and a few other odds and ends. Kate Buckelew provides the vocal on one tune -- a lovely ballad of John's composition. There are 12 tracks, with an emphasis on the standards, show tunes and such that John always handled with such grace, humor and rightness.

GUITAR MUSIC
Bart Hopkin

This CD is a predecssor to the After Seven Years CD described above. Like that one, its purpose was to present the sort of music I play when I work as a solo guitarist, and the musical styles are similar. My suggestion: Get the After Seven Years CD. If you really like it, then you'll probably like this one too, and will want to get it as well.

FUNNY NOISES FOR THE CONNOISSEUR
Bart Hopkin, with Ray Brunelle and Vincent Nicastro

This book and audio CD is about comical sounds and how to make them. On the CD you'll hear squishy sounds and gloppy sounds, farting sounds and belching sounds, laughing sounds and crying sounds, moaning and keening sounds, munching and snarfling sounds, scraping and squeaking sounds, bestial indigestion sounds, crazy-bad musical instrument sounds, Martians conversing, muskrats chattering, and morticians giggling. There are also some sounds that are more exotic than comic, and a few that are strangely lovely. For those who wish to try their own hand at funny-noise making, the book provides ideas and instructions.

Concerning overseas payments
[If you're ordering online you can ignore the following.]
Overseas payments by credit card are by far the easiest. If you send a check or money order, it must be in U.S. dollars; checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank. International Money Orders are OK. If you don't have access to a credit card, international money orders or a U.S. bank account, here's a little secret: we've had good luck with cash sent through the mail from overseas — never lost a dollar that way yet. So if you can get hold of U.S. currency, you can try sending your payment that way, rounded off to the nearest dollar.
